If you had told me last year that we would really love chickens -- and actually see them as our pets -- I wouldn't have believed it! I am not even a "bird person"! Who knew?! Yet somehow, these cute little birds have brought much entertainment outside of our farmhouse kitchen window and every coop drive-by! We really do have many smiles and chuckles about "our girls"! Oh the stories! :)
Very sadly, our sweet Fluffy did not survive her first year. She was indeed our farm favorite -- super friendly and sweeter than sweet. P took her many places through our property and she would come running (more like waddling!) to him and loved being close to him or tucked under his arm.
She took the "mothering hen" role very seriously as she sheltered the other 2 chickens (now fully grown) under her wings each night all the way until the end. Although we are unsure what took her life, she did manage to lay her first 4 eggs right before she passed.
Our dear P decided to go choose a few more baby chicks to add to his "birthday flock" (and the other 2 boys added one of their own to the collection too!)...Meet our new girls to add to our flock on the block:
~ Thank you, sweet Fluffy Girl, for bringing great joy to our little boy during your short time with us! You are very missed! ~
