After many refills of our Softsoap dispenser, I went out and bought a new soap container that dispenses a tiny bit at a time to curb my soap-happy little boy. What does he do now? He just pumps it TONS of times to get more soap. (Smarter than Mommy, for sure!)
Now, I'm all about getting grimmy little hands sparkling clean, but I do think that this may just be too much of a good thing.
He's got the right intentions but does not understand that a little bit can go a long way.
Several nights ago I was thinking about this little issue we've got going on and I immediately found myself realizing that I am more like him than I recognized. Although I do know how to wash my hands with a couple of squirts of soap, I do tend to go overboard in another area.
I have long time been captivated by God's grace. I wrestle with trying to earn more since more is always better, right?!
What hit me as I pictured my little boy going back over and over and over again to get more soap, thinking that he will be "more clean" if he uses a lot of soap, is that could easily be an image of me.
I beat myself up over and over when I really miss the mark and desperately need forgiveness -- even after I have gone to God. He has washed me clean -- period!
I'm not going to get me any "cleaner" than receiving and accepting God's grace. Trying to win God's favor by doing good things for Him or apologizing 1,000 times is not necessary.
God says and promises: "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9
How He does this is way beyond me, but I am SO thankful nonetheless.
Thank you, Jesus, for being the sacrifice for us on the cross and taking ALL our sins upon yourself so that we may receive God's abundant grace when He looks upon us.
Amazing grace pouring out upon us from an equally amazing God.
Life Lesson Learned: God's grace is always enough -- the first time administered. (And bars of soap are better for soap-happy 4 -year-olds!)

So perfectly said! Thank you for sharing this.
So true, and beautifully said. You are a wonderful writer, JA.
Much love, Momma
Love it! So true. I have struggled with the soap issue, and as you saw, we use bar soap (Ivory-3 bars/$1.08 at Wal-Mart!) But I had never before made this analogy. Thank the Lord that His grace is sufficient!
This was so so beautiful!! Greg (Rob) just said the same thing recently!!!! I love how you put this!!!
