Refreshment

Ever felt in need of refreshment? More than just the feeling you get after coming inside from a hot summer day and needing a cool sip of water.

The past week I found refreshment in a way that was unique to me, (in recent days). As my husband has been putting in long hours at work, I decided to dive into some books that have been on my dresser for months.

Every moment that I was not taking care of my boys or going about "normal everyday life" I would grab my book and pour over the pages allowing myself to enter into a different time and place.

I spent very little time at the computer and as soon as the boys went down for the night I would read until my eyes could not stay open any longer. It's been years since I've read for fun! Silly as that may seem, when I do take a moment to read something it's usually a chapter from a parenting book or an article from a magazine or a lesson for a Bible study that I'm working on.

I had totally forgotten the joy of reading for fun!

When I let other things sit on the sidelines I realized what I had been missing and what I then missed out on (e-mail, Facebook, etc.), I really did not end up missing at all!

Time is a funny thing. We never seem to have enough of it but when we re-prioritize sometimes it seems as if we've been given a huge gift. In essence, that's just what we've received.

Oh, yes. There is nothing more refreshing than curling up with a good book -- and I do mean curling up (because when time is limited, one does not curl up).

Oh, I love to read!! I've done a lot more of that lately as my back has been healing. What a great excuse, huh? :) What wonderful books did you tackle?

That IS a great excuse to kick up your feet and grab a good book! I've been going through the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers.

It's disturbing, powerful and beautiful all rolled into one. It's about the early church and includes gladiators and feeding Christians to the lions. That part was VERY difficult to stomach and push through.
