Nylon Endurance Challenge

I'd like to take a moment to introduce you to my good old friends from my pregnancy with P.

The first of these friends are my little nubby rubber gloves (try saying that 3 times fast!).  Although they look very similar to regular rubber cleaning gloves, these are anything but ordinary little gloves.

These little miracles make it possible to actually put on my 2nd good old friend, my compression pregnancy nylons (also a mouth-full), each morning.  And, without these little nubby rubber glove friends, I honestly do not think that task could be possible.

(Perhaps I will work up the courage to also post pics of these lovely compression nylons too.  You really would think they would have to be an amazing sight to behold at $168 a pair, however, to quote a good friend of mine, "they're really not much to look at"!)

The part that makes these "special leggings" actually my friends is that without them my vericose veins get the best of my legs and make it painful to walk or stand...(not to mention the blood clots!)  So, I have to remind myself that although they are a friend that literally sticks to me tighter than skin to me, they add great value in my months of pregnancy.

The daily compression nylon putting-on process goes like this:

After a shower, I put on the nubby gloves.  I then take a deep breath and work up the courage to preform the task of the "nylon endurance challenge".

This exercise -- and YES I mean exercise takes several minutes as I work up a sweat and pull these things all the way to the top.

I always reach my knees and feel like there is JUST...NO...WAY that I can keep going.  Energy I just don't have right now!

It is then I feel intense pain from stopping and leaving these things stuck only half way up my legs -- pain likened to a very tight, giant rubber band cutting off ALL circulation below my thighs.

I slowly continue up the thighs.

Of course, every time I reach the top, the crotch is way too low.  Seriously, WHY?!

EVERY TIME!!!

I then have to use my nuby gloves to grip and pull these VERY tight, unforgiving nylons up -- and yes, I have to start...at...the...feet.

Slowly.

Millimeter by millimeter at a time.

(Think of how many times pregnant women have to use the restroom each day...that's how many times I have to pull these lovely little things back up again!)

Although I do not know exactly how it feels to be embalmed, I am wondering if my legs are enduring something similar each day while being trapped within the confines of these "precious" nylons.

Did I mention that these "nylon friends" do not breathe.  At all.

Normally I am really excited about sunny, warm weather in the spring and summer.

I may just have to take a dip in the kiddy pool this summer.  WITH my "nylon buddies" on!

At night, when I release my poor legs from their "nylon prison", (and don't think the removal is much easier!), I think my legs actually whisper "thank you" to me.

Speaking of which, I think it is about that time of night!!  :)  YAY!  Ahh, what we go through for our children.

~ Thank you, Mom, for all you went through for us!  :)  ~

You poor thing! It's amazing what we moms go through isn't it? When I was pregnant with Kye I got PUPS and itched non stop for weeks. It was pure misery. However, I do think that your dilemma sounds worse. Mine was only a few weeks...you still have months to go! But in the end it will all be worth it. :)

Ah, yes!!! I, too, have the gloves and the high priced, aerobic nylon friends! Of course, because I gifted you with the...varicose veins--the veins I inherited from BOTH grandma & grandpa's sides of the family. We're doomed! I truly feel your pain and know your experience with the gruesome process of putting them on (THEY REALLY ARE TOO SHORT, DON'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY TOLD YOU WHEN YOU BOUGHT THEM). And don't you love the way they creep down as you wear them?

I'm so sorry for your suffering, dear girl! I pray for you in this extra way that you show your love for your little one. Much love, Momma
