Sadly, right before heading out of town my sweetheart's grandma passed away. Although somewhat foreseen, still a hard loss to swallow. She is and will continue to be dearly missed.
One reoccurring theme of our trip this year was learning to "roll with the unexpected punches".
With that, we made a quick change of plans and left a day early so that my sweetheart would be able to have a couple days with my family before flying back to the Northwest for the memorial service.
Before he flew out, we spent time together, just as our family of 5, and also went on a beautiful bike ride near Breckenridge.
We then had a picnic lunch along the river, it was indeed a very special time.
My sweetheart returned a few days later and joined us for the remainder of the week, then, as planned, traveled the second week across the country for work.
During the second week T came down with a sinus infection and then pneumonia. Thankfully, we had a wonderful doctor who was able to get T the help he needed, and he's now, finally, in good shape!
The time we spent with family was amazing. The boys were able to have an abundance of quality time with their cousins, aunts and uncles and grandparents. It touched my heart over and over to see how close they had become with everyone over these few special weeks.

Another theme, a much more light-hearted one, was found with the Chronicles of Narnia.
A month ago the boys and I had begun reading The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe, (they were very excited to read the book so they could then see the movie!), but had forgotten to pack it for the trip. Several days into our trip, we found a thrift store that not only had the regular copy of the book but also the "Beginner Reader" version! Needless to say, for 50 cents we bought both!
We continued to read the book and talked a great deal of the characters, values and choices of each, as we drove to and from the various relatives' houses. The boys loved to discuss the correlation of Aslan to Jesus. One of the biggest highlights for the boys was then when we were able to watch the movie for the first time. (And then several more times!!)
Then, the boys dressed up for the day (in robes) as Peter and Edmund, Kings of Narnia. Then, created books and pictures to help tell the story in their own words. It was great fun!
And while Grandpa was off on a backpacking trip, Grandma D helped guide the boys in a lesson about the American flag!
A HUGE thank you to my family for all the love you poured upon us while we visited. We love you all so deeply.
The boys are already asking if we can go back to be with everyone again, I take that as a very good thing! :)
