Tales from a Newly Homesteading Momma -- Part 1

* It is with JOY that I dive into a new series of entries this summer -- all centered around our adventures of homesteading with a passion and vengeance!  Stay tuned as we attempt to journal this new chapter on our family's journey. *

Here we are now.  Homesteading and (somewhat blindly) starting this arduous/rewarding journey from scratch.

When purchasing our land a year ago, it was definitely in raw form.  This beloved land stood ready and seemingly awaiting the next step.  A small orchard, a sprinkling of graceful madrona and evergreen trees, rolling meadows of wild grass yet nothing else standing in our way.

A perfect canvas to dream up our new farmhouse and homestead.  And dream we did!  Amazing how Pinterest can cast pictures of other peoples' dreams in the most beautiful light that seems utterly achievable for your own.

I smile as this new reality sets in.  I pinch myself as I actually stand inside a farmhouse that was dreamed up by Pinterest ideas and executed by an incredible (unrelenting and determined!) husband and no less than God's sheer goodness and grace.

This kitchen window is where I observe our 3 precious boys, a 7 month-old crazy-spunky Jack Russell puppy and 3 sweet little chicks running around, all rapidly growing quickly before our eyes:

The extreme messiness of this life -- the insane amount of dirt and smell that comes in with our boys from tree-climbing in our woods and tumbling down our rolling meadows.  Now they literally live outside.  These are just things that can not be pinned.  Memories marked in mud.  Mud that doesn't come out in just one washing:

Yes, this is pair of P's jeans pulled out of the washer this morning having *already* been washed once!

School is out now and settling in on the homestead has re-surfaced as a priority again.

This life is FAR messier in more ways than I can count, yet it somehow feels right.  Again, a messy-beautiful of sorts.

A year later, we are still working hard to get settled and established; slowly but surely.  Each day brings  a bit more progress, coupled with an overwhelming gratefulness for this messy-beautiful journey in this place where God has carried us.

This homestead is undoubtably the sweetest of places we've experienced as a family.  A place where our dear Lord has blown us away with His loving generosity.  We stand completely humbled and unworthy of all this.  Our hearts are overflowing.  It is in this place where we very plainly see His grace and faithfulness are simply, yet astoundingly, all we need.
