Soap Box Derby Race

For over 6 months we've known that our friend's soap box derby race would be held at the end of August. My husband immediately, being the achiever that he is, began planning. He graciously built a Lightning Mc Queen racing car in honor of our T since it happens to be his favorite movie of all time.

All summer he has been working evenings and weekends on this car to make as close to a replica as possible. Although I am a bit biased I think he achieved his goal! :) Our computer's photo program is not working at the moment and I will post pics of the finished product when I can fix it.

My husband was gone last week for business and the moment his plane landed last Thursday evening he had the race on his mind. He hurried home to load up his race car into our friend's truck and run through the race course a few times to begin strategizing. Fortunately, of the 3 cars that practiced before the race, Lightning Mc Queen was the only one that did not crash. (It was back to the drawing board for the other 2 derby cars.)

Last Saturday was the official race with about 15 different cars entered. There were a few minor crashes, but overall, the race went very smoothly. Although my husband did not win for speed, he did win ALL the kid's votes for best car! :)

Now, we've got a Lightning Mc Queen derby car taking up a valuable spot in our garage...not sure what will happen to this cute little derby car. Any ideas?
