Poor Sweet Baby Boy!

Poor baby boy!

Our sweet baby boy was on my lap this evening as we went down a slide. His foot somehow got caught in between the side of the slide and my leg. My brother-in-law was able to see what happened at the bottom and described it as his foot caught and quickly twisted as we slid to the end of the slide.

He was immediately VERY upset (with good reason). I then set him down on the ground...he could not stand up. His leg crumbled from the weight of his body on his injured foot and ankle.

My heart just sank. The reality is that he was really hurt. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law were SO sweet to comfort him (and me) and encouraged me in the most wonderful of ways right after it happened. I'm so thankful for them, especially in a time like this.

We took him to the E.R. and they X-Rayed it. Apparently, babies have a lot of gaps in between their growing bones since the bones are still growing rapidly. They are 80% sure that it's not broken but a severe sprain.

He now has a little cast that has plaster on the bottom and up the leg, then cotton wrap and an ace bandage wrapped on top. It should take several days to heal. We'll go see his pediatrician on Tuesday to make sure it's ok to remove the cast. They did say that if he feels a lot better that we could remove it as soon as 2 days from now...let's hope and pray that's the case!

So, it's great news that it does not appear to be broken. The challenge now is that he can't walk on it for several days. UGG! He is THE MOST active baby I have ever witnessed cruising around and we're supposed to keep him from walking?! HOW?!

He's sleeping now and I am praying he'll get a good night sleep (with rolling around and the cast, who knows).

I feel so badly! The doctor said that I have to not stop taking him on slides...I'll try to take his advice. It's so hard though.

Please pray for a quick recovery. Thanks!

Poor baby just had his 15 month shots this morning...Poor sweet baby!

Oh how horrible!!! Thankfully it is not broken... Don't beat yourself up, it could happen to any of us. Think of it as a "teachable moment" and all the mommies that will learn from your misfortune:( Give him lots of hugs and I bet it'll be off in no time:)
