He Really Did It!

Imagine this:

Peppin gladly goes into his crib with some toys and sweet Bible songs playing on his cd player to have independent playtime (he's now on the every other day morning naps and today was not his nap day) while Mr. T does the same thing in his room (although he has the whole room to move around in) as I gratefully take a few moments to collect my thoughts and take a peaceful shower.

We have a special 3-in-1 monitor that allows us to have one receiver but listen to up to 3 kids at one time. (Since we only have 2 children we put the 3rd monitor in the guest room -- except when of course we have company) Every 5 seconds the monitor automatically rotates through the different rooms. Our baby is the first, guest room is the second and Mr. T is the 3rd.

Part way through my shower, I hear a very loud thud (heard through the walls over the loud shower water, not through the monitor). In my 3 year experience as a mom, thuds are NEVER good things. Was it our first or second child? What in the world did they do to themselves or something else?

I wait for a moment for the monitor to convey to me any more information. Yes, sure enough, when the monitor returned back to it's first room again it was clear that crying was occurring (Peppin). VERY loud crying.

What happened next had me confused as I was quickly trying to put all the pieces together. I jumped out of the shower (dripping wet). Then, I heard our baby crying on the second monitor...THE GUEST ROOM ONE...

What in the world?! Why would our baby's voice be in the guest room? Then, it was coming from Mr. T's room! I RAN to our master door to open and inquire...

It was at that very moment that I saw our baby STANDING at OUR DOOR! Crying, of course, but more than that, he was in shock! And, come to think of it, so was I!

The little monkey had abandoned his toys and soothing lullabies, jumped ship and wondered all the way down the hall way --now just wondering how he got on the other side of his crib!

I did a check for cuts, bumps and the like, thankfully, nothing appeared to be hurt.

We always joke about our little one possessing superpowers...and now I know!! He can not only scale the child safety gate on the stairs, he can climb crib "walls" as well!

I'm still shaking my head at how he actually did it! I was so surprised, but really, I shouldn't be...it's JUST like him to do something like this!

And yes, his foot and leg seem to be healed! :) And I do hope to keep it that way!

(The picture of him at the top was taken a few minutes after "the thump"...back to spunky self)

Holy cow! He is young to try that! We just invested in a crib tent. But ours was to keep kids out! Not in! :)

that is nuts! Kyle is a climber but he has never climbed out of his crib (except when I left the rails down when he was 11 months old and he fell out)
Kyle has escaped from the pack and play one time (when we were camping in a tent)
"P" sure is a dare devil!

Oh, here we go! :)

My girls never once even attempted to crawl out of their cribs. But Jack was out as soon as humanly possible. :) He's a monkey, and has always been a jumper and climber. Amazing - even now. I cannot watch him on the swingset, yikes.

Guess what we did? turned the doorknob around - it locks from the outside. My mom worried about fires. I worried about toddlers walking out the front door. :)

Have fun with your little monkey!

Wow! What a smart little guy to figure this out so soon! My kids have not tried to climb out of the crib, so I have no solutions to offer. But I just have to say, good for you for training them to have room time. I think it is a wonderful skill for them to be able to entertain themselves!
