Tonight we reached one of these with our youngest. He has been jumping out of his crib lately again and I was a bit concerned about him getting injured.
In fact, we had just had his 3rd ER visit in 2 years this past Tuesday night with a deep puncture wound to his leg, (caused by a nail on a piece of wood meant for sweet peas). I did not want to provide yet another opportunity to pay another ER visit once again.
So, although I am not sure if he is up for the boundaries we expect for him in a "big boy bed", I did not see how he should stay in a crib anymore when he leaps, (almost effortlessly), out now. Thankfully it was an easy, (and free) fix, since his crib has a conversion kit that within minutes turns it into a toddler bed.
Tonight as I type this, our little one is now sleeping soundly in his new setup. It's been an hour and a half, so far so good! Here he is:
He was THRILLED to have this new freedom!
We had a firm talking to him about how he needs to show us how he can act like a big boy and stay inside his new bed all night long.
I was so hesitant a few years ago with our oldest when we made this transition and he was almost 2 1/2. To this day, even at 4 years old, he will not get out of his bed until we come in and say good morning and open his door.
Now here's our free-spirited, just turned 2 year old, that has always beat to his own drum. This should be interesting!
Tonight is the first time in a little over 4 years that we have no cribs in our house...WOW! That's a milestone, indeed!

Yeah! Looks like the first night went well. Emma was just like T... she NEVER got out of her bed w/out calling us to come and get her. However, #2 was very different... he has been in his bed since December and while he used to stay in his bed, now he gets out of bed regularly at bedtime and EVERY morning, he comes into our room to greet us. They are so different! If the time comes that you need some ideas on how to keep him in his bed, let me know, we've tried lots of "tricks" with Luke. :) I hope you don't though... and that every night continues like the first. He looks so cute in his bed! :)
Ahhh, they grow up so fast don't they? Our youngest is jumping out of his crib too. He's only 1 1/2 so still a little young to move out of the crib completely. I'm thinking of buying one of those tents that fits over the crib, to at least keep him safe for now! Congratulations on reaching that next step and the smooth transition. Hopefully it stays that way!
Lydie still sleeps in her crib. She doesn't complain. I wonder how long I'll get away with it. I hope your little sweetie does really well!
Wow has time gone by so fast!!! How wonderful!
