Camping Adventure

We're back from our weekend camping adventure!

I've come to realize (and embrace) that EVERY time I go somewhere with my husband it IS an adventure! I am so thankful that he seeks out fun in whatever he does! I just love being along for the ride!

We made it to our camp site by 9:45 Friday night. It did not take us long to realize that we were placed in the midst of a big bachelor party. By the time I had gotten a few things out of the car, I looked over and saw 2 of the "bachelor guys" setting up the tent with my husband. (Now, keep in mind that they had been (in their mind) "having a good time" for several hours before we showed up. I hate to say it but it really was quite humorous! My husband confided in me later that it did take twice as long to set up with their help. However, it was nice of them to help us out.

Later I asked my husband why he had let them help and he said he did not want to make them mad and upset them by saying no. Yes, that does make sense.

As I was heading into the tent I heard what sounded like a babbling brook only to look over to "the guys" camp sight and see one of them going to the bathroom on his truck (10 feet away from me).

It was an interesting first night for sure! We may have gotten about 3 hours sleep that night if we pieced all of it together. They all finally went to bed around 3 am and I was VERY surprised to hear them start back up with cocktails at 6:10 am (followed by their loud car stereo with base that, if turned just a bit louder, it would have vibrated us right off our air mattress -- I am only guessing that it was to provide mood music for their morning drinks).

After describing our night to the camp manager, he commented that several other families had also mentioned that these guys were "a little loud". Thankfully, he did take pity on us and moved us to the spot that is never rented out and is reserved JUST for the camp owners!! :) We felt like royalty! Not to mention, we appreciated this spot SO MUCH after the first location with "our new friends". We were even able to notice the birds chirping so peacefully as they gracefully glided around through the beautiful shady trees above. It was HEAVEN!!! :) Really!

After getting re-settled in our new paradise, we jumped on the jet ski that my husband had thoughtfully rented from 1-5pm (so that we would be able to cool off in the heat of the day). The temp was around 100 degrees but when we were swimming in the river or racing through the water on the jet ski it was a perfect temp!

After going up and down the river, we found a private little beach with soft sand and a great tree to provide shade. We brought one of our camping chairs so that I could kick back and read while my husband had a good time "seeing just how fast it could go". Trust me, I was very content to not be doing what he was doing, and he assured me that he felt the same about what I was doing. Win, win!

It was so peaceful to be still on this beach, alone. My feet dipping in the water, reading a good book, soaking up the sun and watching my husband fly up and down the river having the time of his life. It was a moment I will not forget for a very long time. It was so beautiful.

Then we went out to a nice dinner down the road (always great when I don't have to cook!). We came back and rested for a few minutes before our next adventure.

We went out thinking that we were going to have a peaceful walk along the river. We decided it would be fun to walk on the golf course since it was not in use at that time of night. The more we walked the more we noticed the mosquitos swarming us. It got rather funny to figure out ways to walk while rotating between wildly swinging our arms and slapping our legs...finally we resorted to pure running...FAST!

When it was all said and done I counted over 20 bites on me...somehow my husband was not hit quite as badly. This is one time when I did not appreciate being loved! Needless to say, while I type I am continually scratching my arms and legs on these itchy "spots of love".

We were able to have a GREAT night sleep on Saturday night and a beautiful morning on Sunday, just sipping coffee and watching the river.

Last night we were able to pick up our kids and have a bbq on one of our local beaches as we awaited some of our friends who had done an all day race. Great ending to a wonderful weekend!

A HUGE thanks to my in-laws for making it all possible! We love you and can not find the words to thank you!!

It sounds like a dream - what a crowning moment for the last few weeks!

It looks so peaceful. Everyone I know seems to be having a happy summer these days - I hope it stays that way!
