~ In every season, Life's Garden provides blessings. Along our journey, we are given breathtaking glimpses of heaven, we often just have pause long enough to recognize these glimpses for what they truly are. Welcome to my attempt to bloom where I've been planted -- among the sweet blossoms and tangled thorns. I invite you to come look and see how God lovingly makes roses to bloom.~

The Dreaded PT
This special time comes along to every mom so I am really trying to approach this rite of passage positively. That being said, I think that it is finally time to potty train our 2 1/2 year old son. I am bracing myself for what could be an exhausting effort (on both our parts). I keep waiting until the perfect time and day, and like dieting, "tomorrow" always seems to sound more appealing. So, I guess it will indeed have to be tomorrow since he's now in bed for the night...it's so great how I squeaked by with one more day! :) I have heard great success stories on this very subject and also the nightmare stories. I'll dwell on the former so that I myself can escape the nightmares -- at least for tonight. Any moms with advice that worked for them is very welcome!

Good luck!~
I successfully PT two boys and here is my advice. Do it when they are ready. Meaning, go ahead and start the PT process using whatever method you choose, but if they aren't making improvements in their efforts by day 3 or 4, then ditch it and start again in a few months. I think I tried with both boys at 2, 2 1/2, 2 3/4, and 3 years old and Jackson was PT at 2 3/4 and Blake at 3 yrs old. Both boys took only four days total - completely PT at night and never looked back. Something to be said for waiting when they are ready.
Hey friend!
Got your email...thank you so much for letting us know of your blog. My man is not the blogging type, but I am! So glad to have an update on your family! You guys come to mind often and we miss you! Sorry we haven't kept in touch better...but maybe now that will change!
Oh my, is it already time for potty training? I have no advice because my boys were so different. There just don't seem to be any rules, except prayer and patience. Take care!
Hi Julie Anne! Cessy Dillon sent me your blog address a few days ago, and I love reading what your up to because I practically feel like I've met you! My advice for PT echoes the first comment: do it when he is ready! We started my daughter at 2 1/2 and she went ONE time, then made excuses every time we'd try again, so back to diapers for a while. We kept trying, off and on, and one day she literally woke up and decided that was the day. She was 3 yr 4 mo old. It had to be her timing. But from that day on we've had dry naps and nights and only a handful of accidents. We chose not to make it a battle because that can make every day miserable! Good luck!
JulieAnne,
I love this - it is so encouraging and it makes me miss you SOOOO much. I am attempting to pottty train Jack too - we will see how it goes. He likes to do it - for me it is jsut about being vigilant enough to catch him when he actually needs to go. We shall see - anyway - I love your blog and I really love the bllom where you are planted part - You are a breath of fresh air - I so want to come see you sometime soon - probably won't be in the next two weeks as they are crazy with my sister in laws wedding stuff - but after that (I hope) Love you - Am
The only thing I would add to the advice you've already been given is to figure out what motivates Mr. T. Finding his motivation is the difference between him wanting to be potty trained and and him never wanting to go again. Adrianna's motivation was raisins, but also the desire to please. Some kids just want the big kid underwear, some hate feeling wet, some like the candy... Just find whatever it is that motivates T (and it may even be several different things). You can do it, because it's really not as hard as it seems! :)
