Sand

Life Lesson: When it comes to sand box sand, apparently not all sand is created equally.

3 years ago when we lived in Georgia, Mr. T received a beautiful sand box for his 1st birthday.

We went and found soft, white sand to fill it up. (2 weeks after filling it up with several hundred pounds of sand we found out that my husband was transfered across the country again!).

When we moved to the house we are now in we proceeded to fill up the relocated sandbox with what we thought would be similar sand. What we got instead was semi-refined dirt. Oh, my friends, there is a HUGE difference between that and the pure, tropical sand that we had in Georgia.

Knowing all the effort that my husband went to as he once again filled it with several hundred pounds of sand, I did not even want to ask him if there was a way to replace this "sand" that we now had. Last summer we had 2 toddlers running in and out of the house with this gritty, sticky, rugged sand between their toes and all over their clothes...(one that was being potty trained and there was not always the time to get cleaned off in order to make it to the bathroom in time).

Last week I hosted the moms and kids of my neighborhood Bible study at our house. I commented to my neighbor that our hardwood floors are getting ruined quickly by all the sand. She and I agreed that it seems to be sandblasting the floors.

After briefly mentioned the words "sand blasted floor problem" -- in passing-- to my husband the next day, he was ON IT. I mean this man immediately began the removal and relocation process of the sandbox in his mind! Since we had a 12 hour day on Saturday out of the house, he woke Sunday morning on a mission. He had already put together the entire day before we got out of bed.

-- Church 10:30 am
-- Lunch 12:30pm
-- Unload sand
-- Relocate sandbox
-- Relocate old sand (several hundred pounds)
-- Pressure wash patio and rid it of all the old sand
-- While at it, pressure wash driveway, sidewalk, both porches, all of patio furniture
-- Get new sand
-- Pour new sand
-- Drop off pressure washer at friend's house
-- Bible Study at 5pm

Here's the final product today -- the soft sand is back!! (he picked up the new SAND on the way home from work):

Sure enough, all but the new sand was checked off his list yesterday! :) All I can say is this is one of those times that I am so thankful for his "achiever" personality!

~ Kelly, this one's for you:

Hi! Where would you get such nice beach sand??? I think I may attempt to motivate my husband to do the same sand removal/replacement!

Someday we will have to get to know each other better! I think we would be very good friends. :)

:) I really am so thankful for my husband's wonderful way of getting things done.

April, I think it was Lowe's, I will check and get back to you. I do know that it was $8 a bag...WELL worth every penny!

Kelly, I am laughing that you mentioned about sleeping in the sand! That is the exact thing our littlest tried to do right away!! I will go back and add that picture to the original blog post for you to see! :)

Evidently your husband and I think alike. Why wait? No time like the present.

I drive my husband nuts. :)

I remember that soft sand as a kid. It was great -
til it rained.
My parents never covered our sandbox, go figure.
But looking at yours, I feel like I might just like to get in there, myself! I'll bet it feels great in your toes. :)
